OUR SCHOOL PROJECT FOR HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN LIVING IN AN EXTREMELY POOR COMMUNITY IN THE HIGHLANDS OF GUATEMALA

"Some 60 per cent of the school age population live in rural areas, but only 24.5 per cent of the schools are in the rural areas."

The project started in 2003 with a school founded by parents of the community for some 40 students, with shanties as classrooms. It was such a great decision of them in order to fight the high rate of illiteracy and a very big effort for them being of the poorest!  

To going on they looked for a partner and they could quickly find it in our organization. Further on and with the management and support of Children’s Charity Onlus Italia it has developped in three big concrete buildings, where now 400 (four hundred) students are learning their primary school lessons, teached in two languages: Spanish (the national language of Guatemala) and K’ich’e (one of the 22 Mayan idioms).
